With summer almost upon us, do you feel like you will have enough water? If your city or town has not had a lot of rain or snowfall over the winter months, you could be in for a really dry summer. You might become subject to water bans that will restrict your use of a lot of water. Most people do not even worry about the excess usage of their water supply as they just do not even think that it might hit them until it does. Some of these states might have the bans in place for the whole year and into the next.

These bans have 5 different stages. Stage one being the possibility of a dry summer, to a total water ban where you would not be able to get any extra water. This could mean that your yard would dry up and so would your garden if you had one. You would not be able to refill your big pools and your streams and creeks would run dry. These bans have happened in some parts of Texas and California in the last couple of years and when hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, the entire area had no water.

If you think that your state or even the town you live in will get in this situation, you could just stop running useless amounts of water down your drains. First off, when doing your dishes if you have double sinks, fill both so that you can shut off the water instead of leaving it running. If you have a bathtub, use this instead of your shower. Put bottles of water from your sink or the bottled water from the store in your refrigerator so you do not have to run the water in the sink until it gets cold enough to drink. You could also cut back on the number of days you do laundry. You might also want to make bigger loads rather than having all of the small loads.

We know that if you have children doing some of these things it is almost impossible, but even doing some of these things will help with water waste. If you will think on this a minute, if this ban should be put in place and you have a lot of this bottled water already, then you would not be trying to find it as it can go pretty quick. You can use this bottled water to wash your hair, cook with, and in some cases wash your clothes. The last might be a little hard to do, but you can hand wash some things if needed. Just plan ahead.
